Setting Up Smart Web Filtering

How to Set Up Smart Web Filtering

Step 1: Open Web Filtering Settings

  • In the Young Minds Parent App, tap on your child’s profile.
  • Select Web Content Filtering.

Step 2: Enable Core Web Filters
Turn on the following options at the top of the screen:

  • Enable web filtering – enables wen filtering service.
  • Block unsupported browsers – this prevents children from accessing the internet through not supported browsers that might bypass filtering controls. Currently Google Chrome and FireFox browsers are supported on Android.
  • Block uncategorised websites – this blocks access to websites that haven’t yet been categorised, reducing exposure to potentially unsafe content.

Step 3: Set Category Filters

  • Go to the Categories tab.
  • You’ll see categories such as Educational, Entertainment, Government, Social Media, and more.
  • For each category, select one of the following:
    • Allow – This category is always accessible.
    • Block – All websites in this category are blocked.
    • Alert Me – Access is allowed, but you will receive a notification in the Young Minds Parent App if your child visits websites in this category.

Step 4: Manage Individual Websites

  • Switch to the Websites tab.
  • Tap + Add Website, type in the web address (e.g. youtube.com, or m.youtube.com), and choose one of the following:
    • Allow – The site will be accessible.
    • Block – The site will be completely blocked.
    • Alert Me – Access is allowed, but you will be notified when the site is visited.
    • Ignore – This option behaves like “Allow” but is useful when “Allow” does not function correctly due to technical restrictions.
  • Tap Add website to confirm the rule.

Note: Rules set for individual websites will override any category-level settings.

Step 5: Save and Sync

  • Tap Save when you’re finished.
Settings will sync with your child’s device – this may take a few minutes. Once synced, protection is fully active.

Why It Matters

Smart Web Filtering adds a strong, invisible safety net that adapts as your child explores the web. It protects what you can’t always see – and gives your child the confidence to browse safely.
